Our journey towards reducing carbon emissions
As part of our commitment to sustainability we are delighted to be working in partnership with the Planet Mark organisation which is supporting us to measure and reduce our carbon footprint, and to achieve and maintain Planet Mark certified status.
Planet Mark is an internationally recognised sustainability certification for every type of organisation. A Planet Mark certification recognises continuous improvement, encourages timely action, and builds an empowered community of like-minded individuals.
‘Decade of action’
In this crucial Decade of Action leading up to 2030, we want to ensure that we are a force for good: positively transforming society and the planet by mitigating our own impact on the environment.
The Decade of Action focuses on accelerating the achievement of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals within ten years. Agenda 2030 encompasses wide-ranging issues including poverty, hunger, health, equality, and clean energy as well as sustainability and climate action. The work of Planet Mark supports organisations to help limit global warming to 1.5C by focusing on the impact of their
How does the Planet Mark certification work?
Planet Mark certified partners are required to measure and reduce their annual carbon emissions associated with business operations by a minimum of 2.5% every year. Through the certification process, Planet Mark will help us to understand the carbon impact of our energy, travel, water, and waste and help PDS to continuously reduce its carbon footprint in the years ahead. Once our reduction goal is set, our new carbon footprint will become the following year’s baseline.
Proven carbon reduction
As a Planet Mark member, we are highly focused on achieving our targets and renewing our certification. Planet Mark certified businesses are enabled to reduce energy consumption, water usage, and waste, and to cut procurement and travel costs. Overall, this could lead to a 16 per cent carbon saving per employee each year, and a 12 per cent reduction in carbon emissions.
Our commitment to Planet Mark also helps the Eden Project, an educational charity based in Cornwall that builds connections with the living world, and helps to explore how we can work together towards a sustainable future.
During the year ahead, we will explore new ways to reduce our carbon footprint and look forward to sharing our progress and achievements. Contact us to discuss our progress on our journey or follow our social channels to keep in touch with our story.
